Wow, we’ve had a lot of snow days recently, and a lot of snow to go with them. As a homebody I hardly ever tire of having to tuck in and enjoy a quiet snowy day at home. But, often, as the snow days stretch (as they did last week) we’re likely to get a call from one friend or another looking for entertainment or childcare. We’re happy to oblige.
Having grown up as 1 of 5 kids, in a house where there was bound to be at least 5 extra kids that my mom watched several days a week, I am accustomed to happy chaos. I love a crowd of friendly kids romping about, and as long as there’s enough food around its a good time.
Today, with boots, snowpants, hats and mittens, slush and ice crowding the mudroom floor, and the wood stove pumping, we had a loud, joyous play day with good friends. Outside the 3rd storm in 7 days blew down another 12 inches and temperatures held steady in the negatives.
This evening there’s upwards of 3 feet of snow cover, and much deeper where its drifted. But, as long as we don’t have to drive too far, and there’s a few friends around, bring it on.
